ABOUT OUR STAFF

Charlene Liebau joined CCS as Director after a twenty year career in college admissions. Most recently she served as Director of Admissions at the California Institute of Technology, (Caltech), and prior to that, as Dean of Admission at Occidental College. She holds a bachelor’s degree from UC, Berkeley, and a master’s degree in counseling from Stanford University. Professional activities include service on committees to select National Merit, corporate, and foundation scholars, and as a panel member at regional College Board and Western Association for College Admission Counseling (WACAC) seminars and conferences. In addition to her extensive experience in college counseling and admissions, she is a certified career counselor. Charlene is well known for her years of dedicated service on many community, foundation, independent school, and university boards of directors. Her leadership role in these organizations is noteworthy.

Marianne Ramsey and Frances Sumner. Both bring a wide range of skills, long years of experience and a strong depth of knowledge in the field of education and counseling. Marianne Ramsey has a M.S. in counseling, a Pupil Personnel Services Credential and also holds California teaching credentials. She has taught in both independent and public schools, and has been a high school counselor for many years. Frances Sumner holds a M.A. in Anglo-American Literature as well as credentials in Community College, Secondary, Elementary, Learning Handicapped Specialist and Pupil Personnel Services. She has many years of experience as a teacher and high school counselor.

ABOUT OUR APPROACH

CCS is dedicated to providing comprehensive counseling and guidance to students and their parents as they explore post-secondary options. Drawing on the resources of our team of professionals, the focus of CCS is on the unique talents, qualities, goals, and requirements of each student. The result is an individually tailored program of counseling and guidance. CCS believes that by providing positive, supportive assistance, each student will find a college, university or alternate path that will best develop his or her potential.


ABOUT OUR SPONSORING TEAM

Stepping Stones to Learning is a unique learning enrichment center which has been serving students and their families in the greater Pasadena/San Gabriel Valley area for over thirty years. Co-Directors Merrily Dunlap and Hilary Dorsey lead a highly professional and dedicated staff in offering one-on-one tutoring, carefully tailored to meet each student’s individual needs in all academic subjects. Instruction is available in Reading, English, all levels (basic through Honors and AP) of mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, history, French, Spanish, Latin and ESL. Tutorial support is offered to reinforce skills and subject matter, remediate areas of difficulty and/or offer enrichment opportunities for each student’s advancement and growth. Individualized courses are also offered for the SAT Reasoning Test, SAT Subject Tests, PSAT, High School Test Preparation and Study and Organizational Skills. Psychology Resource Consultants, housed in a historic building in South Pasadena, was founded by Dr. Jeffrey S. Prater, Ph. D., in 1984. Dr. Prater and his professional associates provide a wide variety of services through their well-respected practice. These services include: Individual, Family, Group Psychotherapy for children, adolescents, adults; Psychological Assessment (depression, anxiety, academic difficulties, AD/HD, Asperger’s disorder etc.); AD/HD Assessment and treatment; School consultation (classroom management, peer interaction difficulties, in-service and training presentations, student meetings, IEP and 504 plans); as well as Parent training (series and one-time presentations on a wide range of topics related to parenting children and teens). Integrated Learning Solutions, located adjacent to the offices of College Counseling Services and Stepping Stones in San Marino, provides comprehensive services to individuals with learning differences and/or AD/HD. Services currently provided include case management through consultation and collaboration with each student’s school and other professionals working with the student; psychoeducational evaluations (to determine patterns of learning strengths ad weaknesses and to identify learning differences; AD/HD evaluations and AD/HD coaching; educational therapy; specialized academic tutoring (in affiliation with Stepping Stones); social skills training (in affiliation with Psychology Resource Consultants); parent training (in affiliation with Psychology Resource Consultants); school placement consultations as well as special summer workshops in organizational and study skills.
